“What hardware do you need to selfhost?”, it’s a question I got asked by an interested friend. There are a lot of considerations when choosing hardware to selfhost your services. In this blogpost, I want to share my story, what hardware I got and the price of buying and running the hardware. It is by no means a complete guide in choosing hardware and you might make different choices in your situation, but this is what I did.
I have used a lot of Google products in the past and to this day still do. I have used Google Maps, Youtube, Gmail, Hangouts, Meet and a lot more in the past. I tried to de-google myself from more and more services, mainly because of concerns that all my data is behind one account, not controllable by me. There are some horror storiesavailable from people getting locked out from their Google account for apparantly no reason.

What is Tautulli? If you ever have looked in the Plex dashboard, you are probably aware that you can track how your server is used and how it handles transcodes and multiple users.
Transmission is a very lightweight and simple to use torrent client. It support a lot of great features and works on many many systems. All that is great, but the real reason why I love Transmission as much as I do, is because of it’s great web interface. It’s really fast, works on all modern browsers and operating systems and you don’t even need to install the client on every computer!
